Kate Faasse, Phoenix Rising Alumna, has had a season for the history books, achieving milestones that solidify her place among the elite in collegiate soccer. She became the first Arizonan to win the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy, awarded annually to the nation’s top college soccer player. The junior forward for the UNC Tar Heels was instrumental in leading her team to its 23rd NCAA Division I national championship, contributing four goals and three assists during the tournament, including game-winners in critical matches. Her season totals of 20 goals and 44 points not only made her the nation’s leading scorer but also marked the best single-season performance by a Tar Heel since 2008.
Faasse’s accolades extend beyond her on-field dominance. She was named TopDrawer Soccer Player of the Year and earned selections to the United Soccer Coaches All-America First Team, All-ACC First Team, and several other prestigious honors. Her exceptional play in the postseason, which included multiple braces and decisive contributions, showcased her ability to perform under pressure. Faasse’s consistency throughout the season, starting all 27 games and logging 2,300 minutes, further highlighted her importance to her team’s success. Her performance also earned her a place among an elite group of UNC legends, joining the ranks of Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, and Crystal Dunn as a MAC Hermann Trophy winner.
Adding to her list of remarkable achievements, Faasse recently received her first call-up to the U.S. Women’s National Team, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exciting professional career. Her journey from Phoenix Rising to becoming a national champion and MAC Hermann winner is a testament to her talent, work ethic, and determination. As Arizona’s first recipient of college soccer’s highest honor, Kate has not only made history but also inspired a new generation of young athletes in her home state.
Congratulations, Kate, on a truly phenomenal year!
